Alabama Rigs for Bass Fishing

The Alabama Rig is a lighter, cast-able version of the ever popular umbrella rigs that has been used for years when trolling for striped bass.

Just like its heavier big brother umbrella rig, the smaller lighter rigs you can buy, modify or make come with a 2 to 5 wire harness that allows for the use of multiple baits or fish attractors on a single line.

The Striper Guides on Lake Ouachita have used their own cut down modified lighter umbrella rigs for years. It was one of our secrets we use to catch fish when they start cruising the lake.

Light modified Umbrellas or A-rigs can be cast or trolled on planer boards using the trolling motor as propulsion instead of fuel inefficient outboard causing no pollution to the lake helping keep Lake Ouachita one of the cleanest lake in the nation.

Umbrella rigs are illegal or have limited hook usage in many states. Always check your state regulations

Sworming Hornet light cast-able umbrella rig

Sworming Hornet "The Swarm" Castable Umbrella Rig - Pearl White - Wire Baits Made in USA.

Freshwater rig Light weight Includes a reusable storage sleeve.
No fish can resist a Swarm of schooling baitfish!
The Swarm by Sworming Hornet Lures is a freshwater umbrella type rig (sometimes called an Alabama rig) very similar to those used in striper and saltwater fishing, yet lightweight enough to cast on most standard rods.

To rig, simply bend 4 of the 5 wires outward to a 45° angle forming a box shape, leaving one wire in the center. Then, snap on some swimbaits or jigheads rigged with your favorite plastics. When rigged and retrieved, the Swarm resembles a school of baitfish. In the water, the effect is too much for a hungry predator to resist.
