Striped
Bass Fishing is the Fastest Growing Sport with American Anglers. Having
helped the founding Fathers of this country to survive, being commercially
caught and sold for centuries, the striped bass is increasingly being taken
notice of in inland lakes and rivers.
Striped bass have been stocked since the 1950s in lakes and rivers
across the country and as the stocking has spread across the country anglers
are discovering the rod and tackle busting qualities with witch the striped
bass are endearing themselves with to an ever increasing angler population.
Artificial Bait
Artificial Lures can make for an exciting day on the
water. Top-water lures like the Cotton Cordell Redfin, Pencil Popper or
Zara Spook, sub-surface lures like Rebel jerk-baits, and deeper water
techniques with jigs and spoons have been popular with striper anglers
around the country.
Getting a lot of attention is
fly-fishing for stripers. Ten weight rods with intermediate or sink tip
lines is mainly used.
Live Bait
When choosing the type of live bait, determine the
primary forage base for the waters you are fishing. In some parts of the
country it might be alewives, in others it might be shad.In the winter
it may be Large shiners and at times it may be gold fish or small bream.
When fishing live bait there are several different methods.
Three effective techniques are down-lining, free-lining and planer
boarding.
Down-lining is a vertical technique designed for slow manipulation in
condensed schools of fish.
Free-lining is considerably less controlled in maintaining specific
depth but can be highly effective if fish are relating to multiple depth
zones.
When fish are scattered, trolling live baits behind planer boards
affords greater coverage more efficiently.
